Episode 48: Black Bird Fly/ Gail Simone Interview!!!!!

Canary is knee deep in deep cover in issue 9 of Batgirl and the Birds of Prey by Julie and Shawna Benson.  Roge Antonio and Allen Passalaqua really join forces on this one with the pencils and colors. At 515 seconds you can hear the exclusive Gail Simone interview that our own Mark Blair conducted, wonderfully, I might add.  Gail talks about things ranging from Birds of Prey, the anticipated Batgirl movie, and her original comic, Clean Room.

Sarah of the Birds of Prey Blog and, Ryan Daly of the Power of Fishnets podcast on the network, and Time Wallace of the Kord Industries blog and Beetlemania podcast join Ashford and Mark on Feathers and Foes for this 64 Hero tournament style bracket.  Five people will determine the winner.  There were tears, doubt, and clenched fists, but at the end, we all walked away not wiser, not even stronger, but at least we were able to walk away.

History Lesson

Feathers and Foes are back with Butch Guice and Chuck Dixon, the creative team behind this beautiful display of a comic.  Black Canary and Dinah meet for the first time, but before they can bust out into the Kid n Play, a blast from the past causes the two birds to part again.  The Ravens.  'Nuff Said!

This issue is big, guys.  A proper meeting between Dinah and Babs.  Finally! Creative team is thrown around a lot, but the pacing in the scenes where Dinah is actually inside the Clock Tower are actually quite moving.  Yes, the two did meet at the Docks for that brief moment in the Hunt for Oracle saga, but that was not a proper sit down.  In issue 28, the two actually asked questions, answered them, felt out each other's cadence in facial expressions to speech patterns to body movement.

Butch Guice's pencils are working in this issue, earning credibility with each stroke. He and colorist Shannon Blanchard really captured the spirit of how a meeting between the two would go...if they ever took a day off from crime fighting to share a cup of Folgers.  There is so much movement and jazz in these scenes that I feel like I could have enjoyed a whole book of these two answering every mystery they have had between the two.  Of course, there are other pressing matters, such as we have Cheshire, who is back from the past, wrecking shop.  Killing scientist at Star Labs, Cheshire is at large, which causes Black Canary to be dragged into this Temporal Travel business.

This new adventure seems promising, but I can't wait for the two, Black Canary and Oracle, to team up again, in person that is.

March Madness is upon us!  We have a contest over here at Feathers and Foes.  Print the bracket, fill it out, and send it back to us completed for a chance to win a grand prize at

This is how a bracket works.  Look at the match ups above the print.  As you can see, there are different heroes that are, as the kids/gamers say, versing each other.  There will be five podcasters voting on each match up.  The best out of five advances to the next round.  Here is an example.  In the top left corner of the bracket you will see the match up Spiderman vs. Catman.  The five podcasers will vote on which one they like the most.  Let us say there were 3 votes for Spiderman and two for Catman.  Spiderman would advance to the next round and Catman would be eliminated from the tournament completely.  This process continues round after round until we have one hero remaining.

Each match up that you get correct earns you a point.  The listener with the most points wins the tournament and will be mailed a prize. Entries must be e-mailed to by March 14th.   Good luck!
